About the Portfolio

The Portfolio is funded through the Big Lottery Fund’s Wellbeing Programme which aims to support the development of healthier lifestyles and to improve wellbeing by focusing on three themes: healthy eating, physical activity and mental health. The Big Lottery funded 5 national and 12 regional portfolios, including 2 in the North West, one of which is this portfolio.

Focusing on the themes of the Wellbeing Programme, the objectives of the Network’s Portfolio are as follows:

Increase uptake in sustained physical activity levels through physical activity and lifestyle interventions, leading to a reduction in levels of obesity and an improvement in physical fitness.

Increase healthy eating patterns and tackle obesity, by improving access to healthy eating programmes.

Improve mental health and wellbeing of vulnerable and

marginalised young people, adults and older people with mild

to moderate mental health difficulties.

The Portfolio is now half way through the funding period and has so far benefitted 25,500 people within the North West.  Off these, 7,500 have increased physical activity levels, 18,000 have improved knowledge and/or behaviours regarding healthy eating and 4,500 have improved mental health.  A detailed outline of progress so far can be seen in the first evaluation report which can be found on the resources page.
